Breaking news: Former 2nd lady Hajia Alima Mahama dies at 69



Hajia Ramatu Mahama (Neè Egala), the second lady of the Republic from 2001 to 2008 and wife of the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has died aged 69, can exclusively reveal.

The death of the mother of four occurred at the London hospital on Sunday.

Hajia Ramatu, as she is affectionately known, had been in hospital for nearly one month due to suspected heart problems, ghanaguardian source indicates.

It comes just some weeks to her 70th birthday, which falls on the 15th of October.

She is the daughter of the late Imoro Egala, a Minister for Trade and Industry and first black chairman of Cocobod, in the First Republic and a long-standing political stalwart in Ghana through to the third republic who doubled as a founder of the PNP now PNC.

Together with the late vice president, Hajia Ramatu had four children, namely; Salma, Farouk, Fayad, and Halim, all of whom are flourishing in their various fields of endeavour.

Body will be flown to Ghana this week for burial according to Islamic traditions
