Fabio Gama’s header secure Asante Kotoko win over AshantiGold in the Ashanti derby

A first half strike from Fabio dos Santos Gama secured Asante Kotoko all the needed points against their regional rivals AshantiGold SC on Sunday afternoon. 

Asante Kotoko managed to reign supreme in the Ashanti derby after defeating AshantiGold SC 1-0 in their Ghana Premier League match-week 28 game at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. 

The Porcupine Warriors exercised their dominance over AshantiGold SC with a scintillating performance which gave them the opener before the half-hour mark. 

Asante Kotoko shook off an early scarce from the visitors after Eric Esso and Amos Addai attempts of scoring was denied by goalkeeper Kwame Baah. 

Asante Kotoko gained possession to dominate the game with brilliant passes among themselves in the middle which nearly gave them the lead on the 13th minute but a solo run from Emmanuel Gyamfi was cooled by goalkeeper Kofi Mensah. 

On the 23rd minute, Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama registered his third goal of the season for Asante Kotoko with a beautiful header from a cross delivered by Patrick Asmah. 

Asante Kotoko kept dazzling the visitors as their trio Emmanuel Keyekeh, Fabio Gama and Emmanuel Gyamfi kept the tempo of the game higher with some fearsome drives outside the 18-yard box. 

Midfield gem Emmanuel Keyekeh came close to double the score for the Porcupine Warriors via a free-kick on the stroke of halftime but his effort was fisted out by Mensah. 

Asante Kotoko calmly held on Coach Thomas Duah’s charges to end the first department of the game in a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko continued to outplayed the Miners lads with brilliant passes and some fearsome attacks as they were in search for more goals. 

Barreto introduced Augustine Okrah,Latif Anabila as replacement for Ibrahim Osman and Wahab Adams respectively. 

AshantiGold SC duo Yaw Annor and Mark Agyekum came close with goal glaring opportunities but failed to put it past goalkeeper Kwame Baah. 

Baah who looked untested by the upfront of AshantiGold kept his lines with a brilliant save from a Yaw Annor on the 65th minute of the game 

Annor came close again to level the score for AshantiGold SC with a golden opportunity but fired the ball over the bar which left the fans of the visitors in a shock.

Asante Kotoko thwarted the late inroads from AshantiGold SC as the game ended in a 1-0 win in their favor.
